Early stat increase
Sharline -- by the first crystal, she sees there is a plant critter that shows up. Kill the critter, and it drops a blue fruit every time. This blue fruit will allow you to spend five points among your stats. Go through the crystal into the shop to reset the screen, and exit. The same critter will be there. Repeat the process to get the fruit until you have the stats you want.

Darius -- more effort is required to pump up his stats. Find the rock golem in the far eastern corridor of the upper shrine. Kill him to find a red fruit that has twice the points as the blue. The shop is pretty distant, but it must be visited to reset the screen.

Access the shadow temple
Obtain the dark crystals. Open the items menu at any save point by selecting the top option that will open the orange menu. Next, choose the second option to use an item, and select the dark crystal. A question will pop up asking if you would like to go to the shadow temple. The temple can be accessed once for each crystal found.
